DOCUMENTARY EXHIBITION YEAR 2021

  1. The exhibition “The Imperfect Past” opened on May 27–28, 2021, in Shkodër. AIDSSH presented to the citizens of Shkodër profiles of the missing under communism, testimonies collected from family members of the missing as part of the project, and materials selected from research in the archives of the former State Security.

  2. The exhibition “The Imperfect Past” opened in Saranda on July 8, 2021. In the premises of the Saranda Municipality, the exhibition was presented to the citizens of Saranda, featuring profiles of the missing under communism, testimonies collected from family members of the missing, and a guide for families of those disappeared during communism. The event was attended by family members of the missing from the coastal area, the border zone, and Saranda, as well as associations of the persecuted and remembrance groups, representatives of interest groups, civil society actors, and journalists.

  3. On August 23 and 24, on the European Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism, the AIDSSH team carried out an educational and commemorative visit, along with presentation meetings in the areas of Tepelenë and Gjirokastër, as part of the ICMP-AIDSSH project. AIDSSH presented to the citizens of Tepelenë the exhibition “The Imperfect Past,” featuring profiles of the missing under communism, testimonies collected from family members of the missing within the framework of the project, and materials selected from research in the archives of the former State Security.

  4. Exhibition on the disappeared under communism “The Sigurimi in its own words” held on August 30, 2021, AIDSSH presented historical data from 19 branches of the former State Security across the country. The exhibition was installed in the “Fadil Kokomani, Vangjel Lezho” park near the Prime Minister’s Office, named after two journalists whose remains are still missing.
  5. Documentary exhibition: “Tirana through the eyes of the former State Security”, was held at the Palace of Concerts (former Palace of Congresses) on November 18, 2021, a project by AIDSSH in cooperation with the “Tirana” Association, the Institute of History, ASA, and the European University of Tirana, with the support of the Municipality of Tirana. The archival exhibition, featuring materials opened to the public for the first time, marked the opening of the Dialogue for Tirana activities, reflecting on the half-century during which the capital was surveilled, persecuted, and oppressed by the communist regime.

  6. Raising public awareness on transitional justice and reconciliation: the missing under communism”. As part of the ICMP-AIDSSH Project, AIDSSH and ICMP worked through coordinators and institutional support from DMSHEQ, according to the bilateral agreement, to: Develop an exhibition using photographs and extracts from the files of the communist State Security. The exhibition is presented during community meetings throughout Albania.
