He was arrested on May 10, 1978, on charges of "agitation and propaganda against the people's power." He was held in detention for 4 months, and his sentence was issued on August 15, 1978. He was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment. He entered prison in October 1978 and was released in October 1982.
